FAQ about Pond & Perch
How do I cancel if I need to?
If you need to cancel please do so by dropping us an email, whatsapp or message asap. Cancellations are charged at 100% of the booking fee within 24hrs of your visit, however you will be able to rebook on a different date.
What wildlife will I see?
The hide has been set up to encourage wildlife to come to us so we hope that you will see a wide variety on the day. We currently have many species of bird visiting, plus rabbits, foxes, squirrels, field mice and voles so the woodland area is thriving. With all that said we can’t guarantee anything on the day as it is still a very much wild location.
What equipment should I bring?
The hide will be well equipped for your visit so we would suggest you bring your SLR/DSLR/Mirrorless camera and any tripod heads you prefer to use. We do have a ball head and a gimbal head available as well as bean bags. We would also recommend lenses in the range of 300mm-600mm to get the best results if possible. Some of the perches are very close to the hide and so below 300mm is possible, just not perfect for the whole day. We also recommend bringing spare batteries and memory cards just in case.
Is there parking nearby?
Yes, parking is on site at Leeds Castle
What clothing should I wear?
Essentially you should wear clothing appropriate to the outside conditions. The hide is dry and protected from the wind but isn’t heated so layers are the best way to go! We do have blankets available for anyone who wants to be extra cosy.
Should I wear boots, wellies or trainers?
As the weather is so difficult to predict, we would highly recommend wearing footwear appropriate to the day of booking. The Castle grounds are mostly covered by footpaths and there is a short section on grass and woodchip to access the hide itself.
What if I need to use the toilet?
There are full toilet facilities only a couple of minutes from the hide.
Is food and drink available?
Although we don’t provide food or drink, there are places to purchase refreshments in the Castle grounds. If you would prefer not to spend money on the day, please do bring a packed lunch.
Accessibility?
If needed, we are able to aid you across the castle grounds and we have a wheelchair ramp for the hide itself.
